How Tagaroo compares

Checked against each vendor’s own shop, August 2026.

The desktop suites license per seat and often sell AI separately—NVivo’s AI Assistant is ≈ $250/yr on top of a license that runs $520–1,005/yr, and ATLAS.ti commercial is $722/yr. Delve, the closest AI-included tool, is $50 per user per month. Every Tagaroo plan above includes the agent, and the people you invite never pay.

Pricing questions, answered

How does Tagaroo pricing work?

Every plan is a flat subscription that includes a monthly grant of agent credits—the unit that meters AI work. The plan sets your limits (studies, annotators per study, model tiers); credits meter how much the agent actually does. There is no per-seat charge on any plan: the people you invite to a study never pay, because a study is metered against its owner's plan. You can start without a card.

What are agent credits and what uses them?

Credits are spent when Tagaroo's AI does work for you: agent annotation runs, extracting an uploaded scale into a workflow, and transcribing audio or video. Manual annotation, reviewing agent output, exports, and reliability statistics never cost credits.

What does the free plan include?

Registering is free and comes with starter credits to try the agent on your own data, plus manual annotation and one study to work in. The plan cards above show the live limits—they come from the same catalog the app enforces.

Is there a trial of the paid features?

Yes—Pro on the monthly interval comes with a free trial at checkout (card required, one per account). It starts with a one-time credit grant, and the full monthly grant arrives with the first payment. Cancel during the trial and you pay nothing.

Do unused credits roll over?

Monthly plan grants reset with each billing period on Free, Pro, and Teams. Credit packs are different: pack credits never expire, on any plan—so a one-off burst of work is a top-up, not a plan change. Enterprise agreements can include grant rollover.

Can I cancel or change plans at any time?

Yes. Upgrades, downgrades, and cancellation are self-serve from your account. Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record, which takes care of VAT and invoices; a cancelled plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for.

Which plan fits a research lab or annotation team?

Teams—it raises a study to 15 annotators (Pro allows 4), lifts you to 10 studies, and includes the full inter-rater reliability and consolidation tools. It is one flat subscription, not a per-seat licence: you invite collaborators by email and they annotate on your plan without paying anything. For procurement, custom limits, or data-processing agreements, contact support@tagaroo.ai about Enterprise.

Do you offer academic or student discounts?

Yes—students and academic staff get 50% off the Pro plan for their first year. Email support@tagaroo.ai from your institutional address and you will receive a discount code to apply at checkout; after the year the plan renews at the standard price, and you can cancel any time. The free plan is also a real plan: no card, no time limit, with starter credits to try the agent.

How does Tagaroo pricing compare to NVivo, ATLAS.ti, or MAXQDA?

Tagaroo is usually the least expensive way to get AI-assisted coding. The desktop suites license per seat at several hundred dollars a year and often sell AI as a separate add-on—NVivo's AI Assistant, for example, costs about $250/yr on top of the license—while every Tagaroo plan includes the agent and invited collaborators are free. The comparison pages hold dated, itemized tables that are honest in both directions.
